Adobe Books Backroom Gallery presents Wouldn’t You Like To?, a seven by twenty-five foot cyanotype installation by Jason Houck that is a visual paean to bookstores as muffled refuges from city life, casinos for serendipitous encounters with the perfect book, overstuffed menus of insights to acquire, and reflections of all that we hold dear.

The installation reproduces the state of Adobe Books’ bookshelves on the afternoon of June 6, 2016. Each shelf is available to purchase individually or together as a complete bookcase.

“Jason’s work is special in his ability to make something as rigorous as a modernist exploration of the grid but then open it up in an inviting manner,” says Christian Dicky Davies, a member of the Adobe Books Co-op and the curator for this show. “I wanted to bring him into the Backroom Gallery because I feel like his work invokes a sense of methodological intrigue while also offering a warmth that allows for real connection with the work. It’s also important for Adobe to be able to show artists who live in the Mission District. Jason really reflects the store’s ethos.”
