Closing Reception
Friday, February 3rd, 6-8pm
Neighborhood Seeds is a community-oriented art project by local artist Maren Salomon. Consisting of over 300 pieces, each work is a functioning seed packet handmade from largely salvaged materials. Every packet displays a completely unique painting of the species stored within: California Poppy; White Yarrow; Blue Eyed Grass; Seaside Daisy; or Hummingbird Sage. Each of those five seed varieties is indigenous to neighborhoods of San Francisco.
Every packet also contains planting directions, a map of the neighborhoods to which that species is native, and a short description of what makes that plant unique and beneficial in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Tagalog. The public is invited to pick up seed packets, which will be distributed for free at a variety of community-oriented locations throughout the city, including Adobe Books. Distribution will begin Friday, Feb. 3, from 6 to 8 pm, at Adobe Books Backroom Gallery closing reception. Adobe Books is located at 3130 24th St., San Francisco.
Maren Salomon is a mixed media Bay Area artist. Her work often reimagines traditional techniques so as to incorporate environmentally sustainable practices. She has shown with the Graphic Arts Workshop, the Wassaic Project and Good Mother Gallery, among others, and been published in the Toast.
