San Francisco based artist Xochitl Priscilla Quiroz has explored themes of cultural preservation and femme celebration through a variety of art mediums since 2016. Her experience initiated participating in collective murals along Precita Eyes at the age of 14, all located in the Mission District where she also attended public school her entire life. Her style initially kicked off with watercolor pieces of characters inspired by her homegirls and as her skills evolveDd, Quiroz continued to prioritize black and brown femme representation of women she grew up admiring, loving, and whom she ultimately felt inspired by and has now expanded to working with acrylics, airbrush, oil paints and graphite as her preferred mediums. Both her art and photography are visual memoirs dedicated to the beauty she commemorates far removed from Eurocentric standards and is entirely devoted to some like her, women of color born and bred in this city and streets.
This show was put together within the last six months and includes a collection of oil paintings all made and produced within 2022, a collection of my film photography shot from 2017-2022 and features a very special space I created and put together to share a piece of myself with you. A true, genuine and raw embodiment of Mi Corazon Sagrado, My Sacred Heart. This show is first and foremost dedicated to my closest comrades who motivate me, encourage me, inspire me and show me all the love in the world, my homegirls. You will always be my first muses. I would also acknowledge anyone and everyone who has ever supported my work, thank you for being here.
