We are right on schedule at Adobe Backroom Gallery and we are excited to present a solo exhibition of new works by Oakland based artist, Michael Diamond. We hope you can attend the opening this Friday March 25th 6pm-10pm
“My paintings speak on my experience walking in the city, pulling formal elements of color and textures from the nuances of urban landscapes. Walking in the city, weathered buildings, rusty metal objects, shadows, lights, and trash are all physical elements from the world I pull from to create my work.
Recently while clearing out my grandparents home I kept a handmade stained glass and wood kaleidoscope that I used to play with as a kid. While coming up with a name for the show, I had the kaleidoscope sitting on my desk and started to think about how my paintings mirrored this object. This kaleidoscope creates a portal that distorts different layers of glass creating bright patterns that morph depending on how you spin it. This object works similarly to the lens in which I look at the city, while searching for inspiration for my work.”
See you at this shining celebration for this creative gem that is, Michael Diamond.
